"Unplugging Isn’t So Easy—But I’m Trying"

🌞 Good Morning, My Friends
I bet you're wondering where I've been lately. Truth is, I’ve been right here at my kitchen table—same as always—but instead of writing, I’ve been on the internet hunting for camping recipes.
🍳 I don’t exactly love cooking... especially the thinking about what to cook part. So I figured if I can make up a bunch of meals ahead of time, I’ll have food ready for the camper and some easy meals at home, too. Honestly, I should’ve been doing this years ago—but hey, live and learn.
🏕️ We’re supposed to go camping with Dennis and Vicky soon, and I don’t want to spend the whole trip playing short-order cook. I want to enjoy it—not feel like I packed up my whole kitchen just to stand over a smaller stove.
Camping is still new to me. I figure by this time next year, I’ll have it down:
✅ What to pack
✅ What to leave in the camper
✅ And what food actually works out there on the road
Heck, maybe next summer we’ll just drive off and never come back. Don’t worry—I’m sure some campsites will have Wi-Fi, and I’ll still be able to write.
🏞️ What Does Camping Look Like to You?
When someone says they went camping, what comes to mind?
⛺ A tent by the river?
🚐 A fifth wheel parked on pavement, all plugged in and cozy?
Me? I’m hoping for something in between. I picture us tucked beside a lake, a river, or a creek—because I love moving water. It calms my spirit and clears my head.
🔌 My Umbilical Cord
Right now, my umbilical cord still needs to be plugged in. And by “umbilical cord,” I mean my CPAP machine.
When we went to Yellowstone, we stayed at a roadside campground the first night—no hookups. I had planned ahead and bought a battery for my machine. It worked... for half the night.
While we were in the park, we had electricity, so I recharged it. But after we left? Same story. Half a night’s sleep and a whole lot of snoring. I sent that thing back.
I didn’t die without air being pushed into my lungs while I slept, but I sure woke up enough times to keep Rick and me from getting any real rest.
⚡ Realizing How Dependent I Am
This trip made one thing very clear: I am very dependent on electricity. And water. And batteries.
📱 My phone
💻 My laptop
📷 My camera
⌚ Even my watch needs to be plugged in about once a month.
Between all of that and my CPAP, I’m basically running a mini power station just to function.
💬 So Tell Me...
How dependent are you on electricity in your everyday life? Or when you camp?
I’d love to hear how others make it work—especially if you’ve found ways to unplug without falling apart!
👉 Turns out roughing it isn’t about sleeping on the ground—it’s about figuring out how to run your gadgets without blowing a fuse.
Pull up a chair. I’ve got a story.
